Deering ‘John Hartford’ 5-String Banjo

Deering John Hartgford ModelThere are probably among you, a few banjophiles who will remember John Hartford’s visit to the Homestead Pickin’ Parlor shortly after he began endorsing Deerings.  Although it was billed as a workshop, it was more of a ‘shake and howdie’ and the instrument room has never been as crowded since.  To this day when you take one of Deering’s ‘John Hartford’ banjos off the wall, you instantly recognize the sound we associate with John’s banjo playing.  The inlays were uniquely designed by Deering head craftsman, Chuck, with input from John.  There is both historical precendent and a riverboat theme made manifest in the inlays which immediately identify abanjo.  Here’s some of the other features which go into making this unique banjo:
