Homestead Jam Descriptions:
Folk Jams
First, Third and Fifth Tuesdays of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. As
with many jams, this is essentially a song circle, where each person
chooses a song, and everyone joins in the playing and singing as they see
fit. Bring your own song lists and lyrics.
Beginning Bluegrass Jams
Second and Fourth Tuesdays of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 PM
These jams are led, and a $1.00 donation provides compensation for the leader's time. A
good way to learn the etiquette of jamming and begin to build a repertoire of tunes to
carry with you.
Intermediate Bluegrass Jams
First, Third and Fifth Wednesdays of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
You've got a few tunes, you know the rules now it's time to kick out the stops, pick up
the pace and have some of that fun you've been looking forward to. A few months in
attendance and you'll be ready for jamming anywhere with anyone. These jams are led,
and a $1.00 donation provides compensation for the leader's time.
Advanced Bluegrass Jams
Every Saturday afternoon from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Flatpicking Guitar Jams
Every Thursday at 7:00 PM
It's fairly non-descript. Lots of fiddle tunes are played, but you can choose to be a
rhythm player rather than a hot lead player. The only thread of continuity is that
the 6-string continues to be the main axe. Check it out.
“Slow” Flatpicking Fiddle
Tunes Jams
First and third Monday evenings of each month at 7:00 PM
Tony Anthonisen, who has been developing his
skills as a guitar flatpicker for many years, guides this session. He's a
graduate of several of Steve Kaufman's workshops and camps and other
guitar camps around the country. Call it payback time - call it whatever
you want, but Tony approached us and expressed his willingness to help
developing flatpickers hone their skills by sharing the bank of knowledge
he's acquired. Jammers will use Adam Granger's book "Granger's Fiddle
Tunes for Guitar" as a resource, and Tony recommends purchasing a copy if
you've not already done so. This jam is geared for those just getting
into playing fiddle tunes and those beginning to play rhythm at jams,
or better pickers who want to practice playing slowly. The primary focus
is on guitars, but mandos, banjos, fiddles and basses are welcome. If you
are new to flatpicking, bring your desire, and we’ll learn and practice
the jamming skills.
The
jam runs from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Check out Paul and Tony’s Popular Picking

“Moderate” Flatpicking Fiddle
Tunes Jams
Second and Fourth Wednesday evenings of each month at 7:00 PM. This is
the next step for guitar fiddle tune jammers, along with mandos, banjos,
fiddles and basses. Would you like to continue to develop the skills
learned and practiced at the “Slow” Flatpicking Jams or at other entry level
jams? So many of the jammers at the Slow Jam have improved so much that we
need to have a jam that is a healthy step higher. Tony Anthonisen will lead
this jam (with the help of others), and pickers will be using Adam Granger's
book "Granger's Fiddle Tunes for Guitar" as a resource. This jam is
geared for those pretty comfortable flatpicking some fiddle tune leads and
those comfortable playing rhythm at jams. We’ll stress consistent tempo
and jam fun!
The jam runs
from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and pickers of any flatpicking skill level are
welcome.
